Amid midsummer, the heat of terahertz arrived again at the Hangzhou International Campus of Beihang University, where the 2nd International Terahertz Summer School was successfully held from July 13 to 27. As one of the flagship programs of the Beihang International Summer School (BISS) series, the summer school was co-organized by the Terahertz International Research Center (TIRC) and the International Education Center (IEC), Hangzhou International Innovation Institute (H3I) of Beihang University. More than 200 faculty members and students from over 40 leading institutions across nearly 30 countries gathered to explore terahertz science, technology, and application through learning, exchange, and discussion. These universities included Imperial College London, the Max Planck Institute, Nanyang Technological University, Lancaster University, the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the University of Savoy, Utrecht University, United Arab Emirates University, the Technical University of Denmark, Goethe University Frankfurt, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Nankai University, Beijing Normal University, and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.

During the courses and lectures, 21 renowned scholars from leading research institutions made inspiring presentations. The courses combined theoretical instruction with first-hand research experience, helping participants grasp cutting-edge advances in terahertz and draw inspiration from experts' research journeys. During the special lectures, experts analyzed the latest breakthroughs in terahertz source, detection, and regulation technologies and examined their application prospects and development trends in aerospace, communication, radar, and biomedicine. Participants agreed that the lectures were both enriching and inspiring, providing valuable new ideas for their own scientific research.

Throughout the summer school, communication and competitive events were exciting and diverse. During the ice-breaking activity, participants from home and abroad actively interacted with each other and confidently showcased their personalities and ideas. At the postgraduate forum, participants enthusiastically presented their academic achievements and exchanged innovative ideas. During the speech competition, participants shared their individual research journeys, honed their presentation skills, and fostered mutual understanding.

At the closing ceremony, TIRC invited Professor Jean-Louis COUTAZ, Professor Rostislav MIKHAYLOVSKIY, and Professor Aparajita BANDYOPADHYAY to deliver speeches and present honorary certificates to outstanding participants. Faculty and student representatives were invited to share their reflections on the summer school.

During the cultural experience activities, participants visited the Liangzhu Museum and the Hangzhou City Planning Exhibition Hall to immerse themselves in the 5,000-year legacy of Chinese civilization and forge cross-cultural bridges through a dialogue between ancient and modern wisdom.

The summer school provided a premier platform for young scholars in the global terahertz community to exchange ideas and broaden horizons. Participants gained cutting-edge knowledge and made like-minded friends to jointly explore the infinite possibilities of terahertz technology.

Going forward, TIRC will remain committed to fostering international exchanges and cooperation in terahertz, creating more high-quality learning opportunities, and driving more breakthroughs and applications in terahertz technology. More exciting and innovative outcomes are expected in the next International Terahertz Summer School.
