Organized by the Medical Engineering & Engineering Medicine Innovation Center (ME & EMIC) of Hangzhou International Innovation Institute (H3I) of Beihang University, the 2025 Biomedical Engineering Summer School officially opened at the Hangzhou International Campus of Beihang University on the morning of July 14. The opening ceremony was attended by Professor Wang Lizhen, Director of the ME & EMIC, and more than 10 participants from Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and Spain. In her speech, Wang Lizhen pointed out that as an important platform for gathering innovative potential and cultivating young talent, the ME & EMIC had constantly taken cross-domain integration as the link to provide robust support for frontier research. She hoped that international students could broaden their global outlook through interaction with peers from different cultural backgrounds, achieve deep integration of interdisciplinary knowledge in practice, accumulate experience in applying cutting-edge technologies through exchange, and acquire their personal growth and inspiration through interdisciplinary exploration of medicine and engineering.

In the self-introductions, participants said that although their majors were not directly related to interdisciplinary medicine-engineering research, they had a strong interest in this field. Through in-depth exploration and active interaction, they hoped to gain a unique learning experience at the summer school.
Yan Chenxi, an associate professor of the ME & EMIC, outlined the center’s basic information and core research directions, including its positioning, resource allocation, and key cutting-edge research topics. He encouraged students to explore their interests and do interdisciplinary thinking within their scope of interests.
Following the opening ceremony, Associate Professor Yu Longteng led students on a visit to the laboratories of the ME & EMIC, illustrating cutting-edge technologies and innovative achievements in interdisciplinary medical-engineering research.
The summer school focuses on medical engineering and engineering medicine. Over the 15 days of academic lectures, hands-on sessions, and cultural experience activities, the program will facilitate knowledge sharing and mutual learning in frontier fields such as medical sensing, biomechanics, and intelligent imaging. By building bridges for cross-cultural cooperation on an international platform, it aims to inject sustained momentum into open and win-win innovation in healthcare technologies.
