Photo by Xie Yuqian, Zhong Hao) On March 13th, the 2024 Teaching Fundamentals Competition of Zhongfa Aviation Institute, initiated by the University Trade Union and organized by the Academic Affairs Department of Hangzhou International Innovation Institute, was successfully held at the Hangzhou International Campus. Hong Guanxin, Director of the Institute, Zhang Wei, Vice Director of the Insitute, Li Min, Deputy Head of the Undergraduate Teaching Supervision Team of ZFAI, leaders of course teams, and representatives of faculty and students attended the competition. This competition aimed to comprehensively enhance the professional capabilities of teachers and accelerate educational reform in line with the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Party and the national strategy of “Invigorating the Nation through Science and Education”.
The competition consisted of three assessment sections, namely classroom teaching, teaching design, and teaching demonstration. A total of 7 teachers from ZFAI participated in the competition. Two candidates were selected for the university semi-finals based on the scores given by the judges. The participating teachers exhibited excellent styles and outstanding skills through rigorous preparation.
In the section of classroom teaching, the Undergraduate Teaching Supervision Team gained insights into the daily teaching styles of the participating teachers through unplanned class observations and provided guidance and feedback to them.
In the section of teaching design, each participating teacher meticulously studied textbooks and carefully designed teaching materials according to course requirements, and showed rich specialized knowledge and solid pedagogical skills.
In the section of teaching demonstration, Zhang Wei started the session by giving a brief introduction to the competition. He expressed support for the participating teachers, and encouraged them to show their styles and expertise and achieve good results. The participating teachers conducted wonderful demonstrations on the core contents of personalized teaching and learning according to the specific needs of students, the attributes of course subjects, and the general principle of “fostering virtue through education”. All participants have shown their energy and professionalism by presenting performances imbued with excitement and brilliance.

To fully prepare the candidates for this competition and further improve the teaching skills of the faculty through research and skill enhancement in pedagogy, the Institute has organized a series of specialized training sessions, providing lectures, talks, and video recordings of past competitions for participating teachers. Associate Professor Luo Mingqiang, the first-prize winner of the 11th Beihang University Teaching Fundamentals Competition, was invited to give online coaching. In the following days, personalized guidance and trial teaching opportunities will be provided to teachers who enter into the semi-finals.
In the future, the Institute will continue to build a highly skilled team of faculty and staff through various forms of skill competitions and professional training. The aim will be to promote effort in education and teaching and make possible new achievements contributing to the scheme of “2024: Year of Quality Improvement” of Beihang University.
