As the old saying goes, "the Winter Solstice Festival is a day of a reunion just like the Chinese New Year". In order to promote the fine traditional Chinese culture, on December 22nd, an event of making dumplings and crepes was held in the canteen of Beihang Hangzhou International Campus, where teachers and students welcomed the arrival of the winter solstice together.
The canteen prepared dough, dumpling wrappers, and five kinds of dumpling fillings, including cabbage and pork, fennel and pork, corn and pork, shrimp and pork, beef and green onion, etc., and also prepared raw materials for making crepes, such as eggs, beef brisket, bananas, strawberry jam, and chocolate spread. Everything was well prepared for the event. After the teachers and students arrived at the canteen, they were divided into several groups in an orderly manner, with some rolling dumpling wrappers, some making dumplings, and others making crepes. They cooperated and worked together. When everyone lined their dumplings together, there were nicely-folded dumplings, creatively-shaped dumplings, "revealing dumplings", "dumplings like steamed stuffed bun", "dumplings like Shaomai", "dumplings like imperial crowns" and other creative ones. Plates of hot dumplings then came out of the pot, and everyone sat around and tasted them to see who could have the "lucky dumpling" wrapped with red dates. Foreign teachers also actively participated in the event, competing with students to make dumplings, teaching them to make crepes, and showing their skills while enjoying themselves.
In this first Winter Solstice Festival since the opening of the campus, teachers and students got together and the atmosphere was cozy and warm. No matter where you come from, we hope this warm heart can dispel the coldness for you. In this warmth, we look forward to the year to come!
