Four seasons are all gratifying, but early autumn is the best. At 8 a.m., September 2nd, the opening ceremony for 2023 fresh students of Beihang University was held in Beijing Xueyuan Road Campus, Shahe Campus and Hangzhou International Campus simultaneously. New students of Class 2023 of Zhongfa Aviation Institute started their new journey at the Hangzhou International Campus together with their Beijing counterparts.

Secretary of the Beihang University Party Committee Zhao Changlu, President Wang Yunpeng, Vice President Liu Shuchun, Zhang Hailan, Huang Haijun, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee Cheng Bo, Vice President Lyu Weifeng, and Alumni Representative and Vice Director of the 17th Office of the Fourth Research Institute of CASIC Shi Xiaorong, attended the opening ceremony. At the Hangzhou International Campus, Sun Qingfeng, Secretary of the Party Committee of ZFAI, and Hong Guanxin, Director of ZFAI, members of the institute leadership, faculties, and all the students of Class 2023 attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Cheng Bo.
After the inspirational short film "The Firmament", the opening ceremony began. In the solemn national anthem, with the sun rising, the ideal and passion of Beihang students to serve the countryby contributing to the development of aerospace sciences are ignited as the national flag rises. All teachers and students sang the national anthem together with resolution.
Secretary Zhao Changlu, awarded the university badges to the freshman representatives. As they pinned their badges on their clothes, the connection between the fresh students and Beihang University became real and solid. The past glory shined again at this moment, and the original aspiration of the Beihang people was passed on.
Vice President Lyu Weifeng read out the winners of 2023 Scholarship for New Graduate Students, and the representatives came to the stage to accept the award with pride and responsibility, marking a new beginning to depart!
On behalf of Shen Yuan Honors College, Xie Kaizhou delivered a speech as an undergraduate representative. He said that young adults should set goals, learn to be self-independent and diligent, learn real skills in a down-to-earth spirit, and bravely strive for the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Great times comes with great responsibilities. On behalf of the School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering, Wang Zhiting delivered a speech, in which she called for resolution with life goals, foster real skills, eager to innovate and realize life values in the wave of times.
Zhou Chuang, a Ph.D student from the School of Astronautics, shared his story of forging ahead with enterprise and fortitude during his studies at Beihang University, and called on the students to strengthen their faith and patriotism, to be innovate and diligent, achieve all-round development and contribute to our time.
Professor Zhang Youguang, the teachers' representative, talked about his 36 years' studying and working esperience in Beihang, and urged all students to make full use of study opportunities in the diversified environment, cultivate faith with interest, broaden research horizons in in advanced interdisciplinary fields, and shoulder the important missions of the time.
At the ceremony, the university leaders presented letters of appointment to counselor representatives. As friends and great mentors to students, the counselors will accompany them in the next few years.

Shi Xiaorong, as an alumni representative, shared her experience and sentiment during her ten years of study at Beihang and her 20 years of dedication to her career, and encouraged students to aim high, be practitioners of life planning, be down-to-earth, be diligent, walk the talk and study assiduously and perseveringly.
"The time of college is the best period of life, and I hope you will study hard and practice basic skills. Dare to explore with the thirst for knowledge, keen on learning, practicing and exploration, and strive to cultivate true skills to achieve life goals.
Dear students, "Youth breeds infinite hope, youth creates a better tomorrow", you will not only create your own era, but also shoulder the responsibility of building a better China. Let's look forward to the young Beihang people with great ambition, hard work, innovation, take the advantage of new ideas and new methods to explore new scientific fronts, and shoulder the mission of achieving high-level scientific and technological self-reliance. On behalf of all faculty members and students at Beihang, President Wang Yunpeng extended a warm welcome to 11,660 fresh students. He introduced Beihang's history of more than 70 years to the students, noting that since its birth, Beihang consistently stand in solidarity with the country through thick and thin.
President Wang encouraged all the students to remain true to their original aspiration and dedicate themselves to serving the country. Students are expected to actively integrate their personal ideals into the needs of the motherland and the people, transform their patriotism into practical actions, and cultivated their creative spirit, thinking and ability. Moreover, they should shape an inclusive temperament at Beihang University, which is more open, diversified, and energetic. President Wang also noted in his speech that the new generation of Beihang University should strive to become students with great love and virtues in their heart.
"The future belongs to the youth, and the hope is placed on the youth." President Wang hoped the new generation will be brave enough to bear the Beihang mission, inherit the Beihang gene, shape the Beihang temperament, cultivate the Beihang aspiration.
At the end of the opening ceremony, the melody of "Looking up at the Starry Sky" was sung in three campuses, igniting the flame of hope in the hearts of the 2023 Beihang freshmen!
2023 fresh students at ZFAI were encouraged and inspired
In such a good day of this autum, I, as a freshman, was honored to participate in the opening ceremony with more than 10,000 freshmen from the two campuses of Xueyuan Road and Shahe. At the ceremony, I deeply felt the academic atmosphere and humanistic care of Beihang. Whether the outstanding senior who has won the scholarship, or an outstanding alumnus who has been doing scientific research and fighting for the country for decades, they have given me great encouragement. In Beihang, we must not only study professional knowledge hard, but also learn to be a virtuous person with the ability and moral integrity and the combination of knowledge and practice. After listening to the president's expectations for us and the feelings expressed by the student representatives to serve the country, with the blessing and entrusting of teachers and under the guidance of outstanding peers, I look forward to writing my own story in Beihang. Based on the word of "Serving Our Country by Aerospace, Starting a Journey When We Are Young", I will continue to break through myself, forge ahead and achieve a better future!

Theopening ceremony in this morning gave me a deeper understanding of the school motto “To acquire both ability and moral integrity, and to combine knowledge and practice” as a New Beihang people. The opening short film "The Sky" made everyone feeling an upsurge of emotion. The speeches of freshman and alumni representatives were full of passion. I was particularly impressed by the wearing of the school emblem at the ceremony, which was a small gesture but meaningful. Wearing the emblem means that we have become a member of Beihang and shoulder the expectations that the country has placed on the new generation of Beihang. As Wang Yunpeng said, "Bravely undertake the mission of Beihang, inherit Beihang genes, shape Beihang temperament, and cultivate Beihang mind." We have to accomplish our mission, make full play of the opportunity of today, pursue the dream of servingour country and forge ahead to grow into capable and responsible Beihang people!

As a freshmn, I'm honored to be able to participate in the opening ceremony held simultaneously on the three campuses of Xueyuan Road, Shahe and Hangzhou today. We chose Beihang University because ofthe dream to "Serve Our Country by Aerospace", and I am no exception. The opening short film "The Sky" made me encouraged. From Beijing No. 1 and Beijing No. 2 aircrafts in the early days of the founding of university to the various fighters that solemnly flew at the military parade for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Beihang has been moving every new BUAAer with more than 70 years of development. We can feel the courage to make breakthroughs out of nothing, and the call of carrying the torch and serving the country. In the speech, the ideals of freshmen, the practice of students, the exploration of graduates and the dedication of teachersgave me a deeper understanding of Beihang and Beihang people. Wang Yunpeng's speech gave me a deeper impression of the school motto “To acquire both ability and moral integrity, and to combine knowledge and practice”. I will surely become a member of Beihang people with ideals and responsibilitiesn!
