At the end of 2022, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) successively announced the list of national key R&D programs approved and funded in 2022. The project “Electrometer with high sensitivity and large dynamic range” hosted by Professor ZHOU Miao and mainly participated by Senior Research YU Zhenhong was approved as a key special project of the national key R&D program with the program funding of RMB 11 million (the participating organizations included the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhejiang Ecological and Environmental Monitoring Center; Shandong Lunanruihong Chemical Engineering Instruments Co., Ltd. and other well-known domestic research institutions and enterprises).

The national key R&D program of China is a new project incorporating the previously-existing National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), National High-Tech R&D Program of China (863 Program), National Key Technologies R&D Program of China, Special Project of International Sci-Tech Cooperation and Exchange, Industrial Technology Research and Development Funds, Special Project of Scientific Research in the Public Interest and other projects. The program focuses in particular on public welfare concerning national welfare and the people’s livelihood, as well as a strategic, basic and prospective scientific issue and a major generic key technology and project concerning the core competitiveness of industries and the overall independent innovation capacity and national security, which provides continuous support and guidance for the main areas of national economic and social development.
Professor ZHOU Miao’s research interests lie in multiscale theoretical calculation of condensed matter physics and material surface/interface. He has led more than 10 projects such as the National Key Research and Development Project of China, the Challenge Program of the Commission for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Key Project of Natural Science Foundation of Zhejiang Province, and published more than 100 papers on journals including PNAS, PRL, AM, etc. as the first author or corresponding author. He was the judge of the research funding programs of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, research funding programs at provincial and municipal levels, and the major innovation and enterprise funds. He has instructed more than 30 excellent postgraduate and doctoral students as well as undergraduate students, many of whom have won national scholarships, the national first prize of the “Challenge Cup” and other honors and awards.
YU Zhenhong, Senior Researcher, has educational and research background in physical chemistry and spectroscopy. He has participated in the research of new aviation emission standards of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and the development of various instruments for measuring the optical properties of aerosols funded by NASA and the U.S. Department of Energy.
